There are so many fun stations with our new, Back to School lesson plan. For our nutrition lesson, the students are learning why it is important to stay hydrated throughout the day, and how much water they should drink daily in order to stay healthy.
This week on the Bouncin' Bus, we are learning back hip pullovers around the horizontal bar. We are asking the students to perch like a parrot when they are finished pulling their bodies up and around the horizontal bar. The students are also practicing kick up to handstand from surfer stance (a.k.a. lunge position) on the floor. For our nutrition lesson, the children are learning about their daily vitamins and how important they are to eat on a daily basis.
This week our theme for class is Despicable Me! The kids have been working on their banana splits and perfecting their cartwheels. We're also learning about the mineral, potassium.
This week for our nutrition lesson, the children are learning how the human brain has two sides. The left side of the brain controls the movements on our right side of our body, and vise versa. This is sometimes a difficult concept for the children to understand. One way we are breaking it down is by having each student raise their right arm then their left. We ask, “Which side of your brain controls the movements in this arm?” The younger children can point to either the left or right side of their head.
Learning to distinguish between the left and right side of our bodies is a great transition into cartwheels, because some students will find it easier to have their left foot kick up first, or their right. So cartwheels are a focus skill for us this week.
Other fun activities include crossing the low beam over the molten lava, doing a forward roll through the jungle vines, and racing to the dino nest to save a baby stegosaurus from the t-rex! If there is extra time at the end of class the children will get to fly like pterodactyls on the zip line!

It was great to be back to classes last week. The kids enjoyed our Thomas & Friends lesson plan. We will be posting photos from the bus to our Facebook page within the next week. Enjoy your holiday break and we will see everyone when classes resume the week of July 6th.

Thank you for your continued patience as we replace our bus engine this week. Unfortunately, the job is taking a bit longer than expected. We are hoping to start classes again next Thursday (6/18). We will keep you updated with the progress of this project.

A highlight from class this week was when we divided the students into two teams and made track lanes with duct tape on the bus floor. The students raced on their feet (running races), with their hands (wheel barrel races), through tunnels, rolling forward (somersaults), and with ab rollers to work their tummy muscles… the best part!
The students are having fun crawling like Sebastian the crab, swinging over the sharks, surfing the waves with Lilo and Stitch, and sliding down the waterfall slide to swim with the Bubble Guppies!
